I recently viewed the thuggish, fist fueled Green Street. A film that gives the deep dark side of British football.
The film concentrates on British football firms, to those who are oblivious a firm is a community of full on football fanatics that are just about as passionate as they come. They represent the football teams reputation off the pitch. By this i mean how much they will go to make the rest of England know how fearless they are of anyone else.
It centers on two of the “best” firms in Britain – West Hams G.S.E (Green Street Elite) and Millwalls firm. Matt an american student, is kicked out of harvard after being wrongly accused of taking cocaine at the university. He travels to England intending to meet his sister her husband and there newborn.
Soon after Matt enters his sisters household her brother in-law Pete, a loud-mouthed cockney visits and asks for money from his brother, steve. Steve , keen to shake off Matt for the night as he wishes to spend the night alone with his wife, agrees to give Matt £100 pounds if Pete takes him to the West Ham game.
Pete is reluctant to take an american to the match but agrees. Shortly after they start walking to the game, Pete offers Matt that if they split the money matt doesnt go to the game. Matt declines wishing to keep steves word by going to the Match with Pete.
After a fierce drinking session in the G.S.E’s pub “The Abbey” Matt is introduced to the violent life Pete and his friends lead. After getting involved with Birmingham Zulus after the game Matt gets caught up in a new life that becomes seemingly closer to end his.
I won’t spoil it for you, 7.5/10
